This leads me to ask: what is Unity’s gender and sexuality? This could make Rick bisexual, although maybe he is okay with having some sexual relations with Unity’s male avatars only because it’s still Unity. There’s even one quick scene where Rick has his arms around both an attractive male and female version of Unity. However, in every scene we see with Ricky and Unity having wild escapades, there are always male avatars present. Though he doesn’t specifically say that all the redheaded avatars should be female, all the ones we see in the episode seem to be. For example, Rick asked Unity to have every man that even remotely looked like his dad in a stadium to watch him have sex with all the redheaded avatars of Unity. Rick seems to not mind at all that Unity flirts with him in both male and female avatars however, we only see Rick seem to act on his interest with female avatars, though Unity’s male avatars are occasionally incorporated in other ways. Unity and Rick were former lovers who reconnect in the episode “Auto Erotic Assimilation” not long after Unity has possessed an entire population. I think one of the main things that fascinated me about this episode is how Rick, who was previously assumed straight, seems so into the Hivemind character Unity, who lives by possessing and assimilating various other races. So today we are going to talk about not only Rick Sanchez’s sexuality, but also what the sexuality and gender of a Hivemind would be like.įirst, let’s talk about Rick. Furthermore, though Unity appears in a variety of forms to Rick, they seem to primarily be identified in the show as female. ![]() In the episode, Unity appears to Rick in a variety of genders and while Rick seems to be primarily interested in Unity’s female avatars, he doesn’t seem averse to the male ones, who are also incorporated into their lovemaking in various ways. I was recently rewatching Season 2 of Rick and Morty-in particular, I was watching the episode “Auto Erotic Assimilation”, where we meet the Hivemind being Unity, a former lover of Rick’s. Rick spends most of his time with his grandson Morty, who helps Rick out as they travel through space, alternate universes, and other crazy adventures. Rick and Morty is the story of an elderly, eccentric, alcoholic scientist who moves in with his daughter and her family after years of being apart from them. But not every episode of Rick & Morty needs to dwell on the immeasurable longing that hides in the tortured heart of Rick Sanchez, so it’s only fair that at least one of his love interests would come in the form of a consequence-free hook up.I just started watching Rick and Morty, and I must say that I adore it. As this occurred offscreen and barely contributed to the episode’s story, it’s fair to suggest that Kiara is likely the least impactful of Rick’s love interests. However, a post-credits stinger does confirm that Rick also hooked up with her after Jerry’s stint with Kiara ended in heartbreak. Kiara was introduced as a rebound for the spurned Jerry, with the central gag of the episode being that Jerry is thoroughly mismatched with a tall, lithe, and lethal alien bounty hunter (at least, until he discovers that she too is attempting to rebound after being jilted). Kiara, the Predator/ Alien spoofing side character seen in season 3’s ninth episode “The ABC’s Of Beth,” for example, is the sort of throwaway gag love interest that Morty has racked up many of over Rick & Morty’s four seasons. Of course, not all of Rick’s love interests have been the purveyors of such dark insight into the character. ![]() This means the emotional wound that keeps him and Beth from becoming close remains very much unhealed on Rick’s part (and it’s also still a sore spot for Beth, judging by the events of this episode). What the planet does do is further reaffirm the fact that Rick, despite becoming a little uncaring and harsh than his season 1 self during season 4 of Rick & Morty, is still perfectly happy to abandon his potential offspring when it’s convenient for him to do so. ![]() Whatever the case, Gaia doesn’t end up playing much of a role in her one-episode appearance (something that proves to be a pattern for Rick’s love interests). ![]() A sentient planet and the most recently-introduced of Rick’s love interests, Gaia is the world that Rick accidentally impregnated offscreen before the events of season 4’s ninth episode “Childrick of Mort.” Only that might not quite be right, since the Zeus-esque fellow planet/god/supreme being Reggie is equally likely to be the father of the world’s beings since Gaia slept with both Reggie and Rick around the same time.
